Since it is easy to do with my weather station (and a good spreadsheet), this year I started keeping track of when the temperature hit its high and low each day. Yesterday was a very unusual day for this statistic, as the low temperature of 29.8 occurred at 12:01 a.m. and the high of 35.1 occurred 50 minutes later at 12:51 a.m. After that, temperatures never broke out of that range and averaged 32.5 for the day.
On average, the high and low daily temperatures this year have been about 10 hours apart. Only once before have the high and low been separated by less than 3.5 hours. That was on April 15, when they were 2 hours apart. Typically, the low is around dawn and the high is in the early afternoon; about 70% of the time, the daily low occurs before the high, as one would expect. But, the other 30% of the time, the high occurs first and the low is later in the day, usually when a front is moving through. Interesting (at least to me)!
