We finally had a hard frost the night of 11/14-15, as temperatures dipped to 25 by morning. Last year by now we had 5 nights below 30. It looks like the cold is here to stay now, but it arrived about two weeks later than normal.
After a warm October, we had 3" of snow on November 2 but still have not had a hard frost. Last night it dipped below 32 for and hour or so, hitting a low of 31.3 but my tomatoes live! So it doesn't count as a frost.
Actually, it was the warmest month, at 4.5 degrees above normal, since March of 2012. It was also the first time in the 4 years I've had a weather station here, that we had no frost in October. According to the National Weather Service, the average first frost is during the first 10 days of October. All good things must end and this frost-free fall will probably end tonight.
